Jerry B. Maloney, of Fenton, died Feb. 26, 2017. He was 81. Mr. Maloney was known for his quick, dry wit, his love of dogs, golf and cheesecake (plain, no caramel swirls or fruity crap, please). Born January 25, 1936 to William and Dora Belle Maloney, he grew up in Detroit, where he graduated from Cooley High School in 1953. He immediately signed up for U.S. Navy submarine school and served aboard the U.S.S. Piper, S.S. 409. He later attended Denison University in Ohio and Detroit College of Law. He joined a practice on Jefferson Avenue. He is survived by his wife Kathryn (Kit), of 40 years, and three sons, Blaine (Valerie) Vande Berg, Joel (Elizabeth) Vande Berg, and Christopher Vande Berg; four grandsons, Alex, Nick, Joshua and Cole; and his constant four-legged companion, Clancy, also known as The Furry Menace of Lake Shannon. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ed. Visitation will be 3- 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 1 at Sharp Funeral Home, 209 E. Broad St., Linden, MI. He will be in-state 9-11 a.m. Thursday, March 2. Funeral services following. Cremation and interment to be at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.
