Jewell Laverne Hiscock, age 93, of Burton, passed away peacefully at home and went to be with the Lord on March 5, 2026.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at Glad Tidings Tabernacle, 4475 S. Linden Road, Flint, Michigan 48507, with Pastor Richard Moore officiating. The family will receive guests at the church beginning at 12:00 noon Wednesday until the time of service. Jewell will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband Graham at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.
Jewell was born on March 3, 1933, in Greenbrier, Arkansas, to the late Joel and Demetris (Campbell) Stewart. In 1940, her family moved to Flint, Michigan, where she grew up. In 1962, she married the love of her life, Graham Hiscock, and together they moved with their five children to Niagara Falls, New York. In 1966, the family relocated to California.
While living in California, Jewell pursued her passion for helping others and graduated from UCLA in 1973, beginning a nursing career that would span more than 41 years. Throughout her career she held several head nursing positions and cared for countless patients with compassion, skill, and dedication. During their years together, Jewell and Graham moved several times before eventually settling in Oregon.
In 1998, Jewell returned to Michigan to care for her mother, demonstrating the same loving devotion to family that she showed throughout her life. She continued working as a nurse with Corizon Health Med Unit in Flint, faithfully serving patients until her retirement in 2014 at the remarkable age of 81.
Jewell had many interests and talents. She was an avid bowler for many years and later became a master quilter, creating beautiful quilts treasured by family and friends. She was also deeply involved in her church, where she faithfully served as church secretary. Her biggest joy was her grandchildren! She was known for her warm heart, kind spirit, and her ability to make friends wherever she went. She touched many lives-more than her family ever realized.
Jewell is survived by her daughters, Deanna Owens-Davis of Burton, Vicky (Logan) Williams of Phoenix, Arizona, and Tina (Andrew) Bauman of Remus. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sisters, Dorothy Cooper and Jeanette Barton, both of Burton; sister-in-law Linda Brannon of Lapeer; and many nieces and nephews.
Jewell was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 62 yrs Graham, sons Jerry and Michael, grandson Scotty, great-grandson Zachariah, brother's Herbert, Billy, David, Bob, Gary, Larry and sister Sharon.
Jewell will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her life was one of faith, service, and devotion to family. Though our hearts grieve her passing, we rejoice in the promise that she is now at peace in the presence of the Lord and reunited with the love of her life, Graham. Her kindness, strength, and love will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the charity of your choice in Jewell’s memory.
