TAUBITZ, Joe - Beloved Husband, family man, Patriarch and Buick aficionado, went to be with the LORD, peacefully, on January 5, 2020 in his home in Swartz Creek, MI. He was born August 10, 1933, he celebrated 86 years of life. Funeral services will be held 11AM Thursday January 9, 2020 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek, Visitation will be 5-8 PM Tuesday and 1PM - 4PM and 6PM - 8PM Wednesday, and again 10AM Thursday until time of service at the funeral home. Those desiring may make contributions to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Joe graduated from St. Michael's Catholic School in Flint in 1952, and went to GMI, and then was drafted into the U.S Army during the Korean War. He was a proud Veteran and left the service in 1955 and went to work as a tool and die maker for Chevrolet for 35 years until 1988 when he retired and spent the rest of his life doing what he loved, family and cars. Joe was instrumental in establishing the Buicktown chapter of the Buick club of America in Flint MI. He led the way in restoration and driving enjoyment of Buick Automobiles throughout the world. His passion for racing in the 50s, to hooking up antique campers to antique cars, driving around the country with his family inspired thousands in the enjoyment of an American pastime.
Joe was on the board of the Sloan Museum in Flint, served as President of the Buicktown Chapter in Flint, a founding member of the Buick Driving Enthusiasts and "Back to the Bricks" event, selected to drive Larry Csonka of the Miami Dolphins in the Super Bowl 20, known by people in several continents for how to fix difficult problems on old Buicks and above all, was known by his huge family as a dedicated patriarch and role model.
Surviving Joe is his wife Bernice, children, Karen (Daniel) Fernelius, Sandra (Randy) Heffron, James (Jullie) Taubitz, Joseph (Kristie) Taubitz, Christopher (Kristen) Taubitz, Michele (Darrell) Revoir. 17 grandchildren and 14 great grand children. Also surviving him are sisters Marie Rice, Jeannette Johnson, and brother, Michael Taubitz. Preceding Joe into death are his parents Leo and Jeanne Taubitz, his sister Anne Townsend and an infant brother, Anthony. Joe was loved by many because of his outgoing, friendly and inviting nature. He was the one who would make anyone feel welcome and at home; now he is in his heavenly home with his Savior. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
