ALEXANDER, John Loren - Age 87, of Durand, passed into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Friday, April 3, 2026. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek, MI 48473 with Pastor Jim Nelson and Pastor Louis Canaday officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linden. Visitation will be held from 1-4 and 6-8 PM Tuesday, April 7 and from 10 AM - 11 AM Wednesday, April 8. John was born June 1, 1938 in Rankin, MI, the son of John R. and Rhesa (Spillane) Alexander. John met his wife, JoAnn, while working at Bishop Airport in Flint. They married in 1958 and shared 67 wonderful years together. John retired from Fisher Body in Grand Blanc after 36 years of dedicated service. He was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church in Gaines for more than 30 years. He spent many years leading youth groups and teaching Sunday School, often reflecting fondly on those special times. John was also a member of various antique tractor clubs throughout Genesee and Shiawassee Counties. He loved driving tractors, farming, Thursday and Friday coffee gatherings, and most of all, his family. John found great joy in spending time with his children and grandchildren. He always had a smile, words of wisdom, and was quick to tell everyone he was “FANTASTIC.” Above all, it was most important to John that others know the salvation of Jesus Christ. He was truly a soldier for the Lord, and he made that known to all who knew him. Surviving are: wife, Jo Ann Alexander; four children, John F. (Doretta) Alexander of Durand, Jeff Alexander of Ocala, FL, Joe (Terri) Alexander of Grand Rapids, Julie (Will) Houghmaster of Freeport; seven grandchildren, Teresa (Brent) Porter, Ashley (Aaron) Priest, John Jacob (Sarah) Alexander, Heather (Nathan) Alexander-Leduc, Jordan (Nicole) Alexander, Bayley Houghmaster, and Allyson Houghmaster; three great-grandchildren; siblings, Viola Hobolth, Rosemary Carnes, Rhesa (Tom) Watrous, Judy (Jerry) Parsons, Theodore Alexander. He was preceded in death by: his parents; and four siblings, Ruth Smith, Helen Alexander, Eugene Alexander and Robert Alexander. Tributes may be shares at www.shaprfuneralhomes.com.
