John Cherry

CHERRY, John Dale - Age 76, of Grand Blanc, died Wednesday, December 17, 2014. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Sharp Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Road, Flint. Pastor Kevin Harbin officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Sunday from 5-9 PM and Monday from 1-4 and 6-9 PM. Those desiring may make contributions to the Genesee County Humane Society. John was born December 13, 1938 in Owosso the son of Burdett and Verna (Kelly) Cherry. He was a 1956 graduate of Montrose High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. John married Doris Elaine Smithwick November 27, 1971 in Flint. He retired from GM Chevrolet V-8 Engine after 34 years of service. Surviving are: his wife of 43 years, Doris; daughters, Shawn and husband Dan Cook of Wyoming and Shelley and husband John Banaszak of Flint; 5 grandchildren, Breanna, Ashley, Cody, Avynn, and Brynn: brother, Lee and wife Faith Cherry of Davison; sister, Joyce and husband Dan Diem of Montrose; brothers-in-law, Michael and wife Sharon Smithwick of Georgia, Jerry and wife Theresa Smithwick of Flushing, and George and wife Debbie Marme of Flint; sisters-in-law, Opal Wicks of Flint and Diane and husband Ernie Harwood of Louisiana; and several nieces and nephews.
