John V. Dashner, age 82, of Flushing, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2025. John's family will celebrate his life privately and lay him to rest with his late wife, JoAnn. John was born on May 24, 1943, in Saginaw, Michigan to the late John V. Sr. and Margaret (Golz) Dashner. He graduated from Saginaw High School, class of 1961. John furthered his education at Western Michigan University where in 1966 he earned his bachelor's as an engineer. He loved reminiscing about growing up in Saginaw and the many memories at WMU as an undergraduate. John was employed with General Motors as an Industrial Engineer for 33 years. He married the love of his life, JoAnn K. Wright on June 24th, 1967, and together they were blessed with their two children, John and Danielle. John took his family on many wonderful adventures as his children grew up.
John enjoyed sports his whole life. He faithfully followed and supported the Detroit Tigers and Lions. He officiated high school football for 30 years. John played many games of softball, rounds of golf, bowled with and even picked up APBA computer baseball. Throughout all of these he developed wonderful, lifelong friendships.
He is survived by his loving children, John (girlfriend Jacqueline Marshall) Dashner and Danielle (Alan) Letter; grandsons, Brenden & Connor Letter; brother, Richard Dashner and special nephew, Ken Warner, who was like a son to him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife whom he shared 49.5 years in marriage, JoAnn Dashner, whom he missed every single day; sisters, Jacqueline & Margaret.
John's family would like to acknowledge and thank the support of their family and friends; the many visits, phone calls and support. It truly speaks to what a great guy he was! John would do anything for a friend or a loved one.
