PORRITT, John Ernest - Age 86, of Owosso, formerly of Flint and Linden, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2026. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Friday, May 22, 2026 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church (The Mass will be live streamed and can be viewed via John's obituary page at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com). Fr. David Harvey celebrant. Visitation will be held at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton Thursday from 4-8; and at church Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of Mass. A Rosary will be prayer at the funeral home 6 PM Thursday followed by a Masonic Memorial Service at 7 PM. Those desiring may make contributions to Michigan Masonic Foundation.
John was born May 25, 1939 in Flint, the son of Ernest Ebin and Dawn Mae (Hamady) Porritt. He was a 1957 graduate of St. John Vianney Catholic High School; and he received a Bachelor's and Master Degree from Central Michigan University. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Air Force. He married Shirley Coline Mills October 17, 1977 in Fenton and she preceded him in death November 9, 2014. He retired from AC Delco as a General Supervisor in Skilled Trades. John was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Fenton. He also was a member and past Master of the Linden Masonic Lodge #132 F.&A.M., the Flint Rapids Chapter #116 of Royal Arch Masons, Genesee Valley Commandery #15, Elf Khurafeh Shrine Temple, the Order of Eastern Stars Chapter #175, Scottish Rite and Bay City Consistory, and the Linden American Legion Post #119.
Surviving are: his children, Matthew Porritt of Flint, Mark Porritt of Warren, Philip Porritt of Grand Blanc, Paul (Lisa) Porritt of Mt. Morris, Rachel (Bill) Southerland of Owosso, David (Sheila) Limmer of Mt. Morris, and Lori Limmer of Lansing; 17 grandchildren and several great grandchildren; sister, Mary Porritt of Port Huron; brother, Raymond Porritt of Marine City; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; sons, Steven and Thomas Limmer; granddaughter, Dominique; sister, Dawn Holcomb; and brother, Tony Porritt. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
