John W. "Big John" ROOT, Jr.

ROOT, John Wallace Jr., "Big John" age 51, of Flint, passed away Thursday, April 4. 2013 at home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 1:00PM Monday, April 8, 2013 at St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church, 4413 Morrish Rd., Swartz Creek. with Fr. Dan Kogut officiating. The family will receive friends 12PM until time of Mass at Church. Visitation will be Saturday 5-8PM; Sunday 12-3 and 5-8PM at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. A vigil service will be 7PM Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Big John loved his family very much!!! He wed the love of his life, Cheryl on April 4, 2003 and together they celebrated their 10 years of marriage on his day of passing. He loved his son Johnnie with all his heart. He loved his step children Tara and Kirk Jewell, Brian Barnett and Michelle Smith, Nathan Barnett, Zack Barnett and Carol Barnett as though they were his own. He had six grand children, Garrett, Connor, and Chloe Jewell, and Hannah, Keagan and Veronica Barnett, who he was so proud of and loved dearly. John had 4 brothers, Dennis, Tom, Jim, and Phil, he also had 2 sisters, Jackie, and Vicki. And many nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law. John was a carpenter by trade, he loved classic and antique cars and trucks, loved rat rods, he was a true American picker. He had such a big heart!!! He was always there to help anyone who was trying to help themselves. He was loved by so many. He touched people in such a special way. When you met Big John Root, you walked away knowing what a special person he was. We want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers these last 6 years, A special to Dr. Saha and Diane Ragnone and Dr. Saha's staff. Thank you to the nurses and staff at McLaren Hospital and McLaren Cancer Center. But most of all Thank You to Our Dear Lord for blessing us through it all he was always there for us. Thank you to St. Mary's church, to Father Dan and Raffy and all of the others who helped us and prayed for us. We could not have made it without you all.
