Joseph was born on March 21, 1941, the son of Emanuel and Josephine (Cassar) Buhagiar. He was born in Mosta, Malta and moved to the United States at the age of 12 to Detroit, Michigan. Joe loved playing the accordion especially singing/playing ‘Happy Birthday’ for his family and friends. He graduated from Chadsey High School in Detroit. He later went to trade school and became a Tool and Die Maker for Fleetwood, General Motors. Joe dearly loved his job; he retired from GM after 40 years of service and was a part of the U.A.W. His love for his trade was reflected in his collection of tools that has been handed down to his family. He had also worked for 20 years in the Cancer Research Lab at Henry Ford Hospital and his work ethic was second to none. Joe married Jane on December 29, 1990, in Linden. He was an avid boater and salmon fisherman. He loved spending summers boating on the Great Lakes with Jane, family and friends. His winters were spent in Naples with Jane, his brothers and sisters and many friends whom he loved. Towards his later years, he became very close to his Catholic Faith and Jesus and loved praying the Holy Rosary each morning with the Rosary Family. He especially loved Mother Mary!

Surviving are: his beloved wife of 34 years, Jane and daughter Michelle Meade; former spouse Josephine Evans, mother of his children, Lisa (Jeff) Miller, Joey (Rhonda) Buhagiar, grandchildren, Sarah (Chris) Terech, Anthony (Zoe) Miller; soon to be great granddaughter, baby Faye; siblings, Tessie, Janie, Georgia, Doris, Agnes, Carmen, Mary, and Mike.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Maggie Cassar; and brother, Larry Buhagiar. Tributes may be made at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com
