COAKES, Joseph Francis - Age 93, of Flint, died Sunday, June 21, 2009 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30AM Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church, Monsignor Richard Groshek, celebrant. Interment in St. Paul Catholic Cemetery, Owosso. Visitation will be 2-8PM Tuesday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek with a Memorial Service being held at 7PM and from 9:30 until the time of Mass at the church of Wednesday. Joseph was born December 15, 1915 in Bennington, MI, the son of Harry Rosco and Margaret Elizabeth (Hamm) Coakes. He had been a resident of Flint the past 50 years, coming from the Owosso area. Mr. Coakes married Emilia Elizabeth Chavora on April 10, 1937 and she preceded him in death on June 13, 2006. He had been employed by Bancroft Trucking, retiring in 1973. Joseph was the patriarch of his neighborhood and enjoyed deer and turkey hunting with his (son), Gary. Surviving are: 2 daughters, Suzanne Gaylord of Grand Blanc, Diane and husband Gary Spence of Swartz Creek; 7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren.
