Joseph Robert KREPEL

KREPEL, Joseph Robert - Age 86, a lifelong resident of Durand, passed away June 15, 2012 at Avalon Hospice in Flint after a short battle with cancer. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church, Swartz Creek, with Fr. Daniel Kogut celebrating. Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek Sunday from 6-9 PM and Monday from 1-4 and 6-9 PM. A vigil service will be held at the funeral home Monday at 7:00 PM. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Mr. Krepel was born in rural Durand, December 5, 1925, the son of Joseph M. and Mary R. (Varga) Krepel of Slovakia. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army under General George Patton in the Third Army, 76th Division, K Company and was one of the first to enter Germany. He married Mary Yvonne (McCarthy) Krepel on November 25, 1950 at St. Mary the Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Swartz Creek, where he was a parishioner for 86 years. Mr. Krepel retired in 1981 from General Motors Buick Division in Flint after 36 years of service. He was a member of the U.A.W. Local 599. Surviving are: daughters, Bernadine and Linda Krepel both of Coconut Creek, FL; son, Joe and wife Beverly Krepel of Naples, FL; grandsons, Joseph Douglas, Andrew Joseph and Patrick Michael; 3 great grandchildren, Alizza, Nathan and Conner and sister, Frances Rybo of Ypslanti. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Mary Krepel; daughter, LuAnn Smith and infant grandson, Jeremy.
