Karel Lee Schupbach

SCHUPBACH, Karel – Age 66, of Fenton, passed away May 8, 2026. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 W. Silver Lake Rd., Fenton, MI 48430. The family will receive friends from 2–4 PM and 6–8 PM Friday, May 15, and from 10–11 AM Saturday, May 16, at the funeral home. Karel was born February 16, 1960, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Dr. John Failing Jr. and Betty (Vanderveer) Failing. She graduated from Lake Fenton High School, Class of 1979, and attended Grand Valley State University, where she pursued her interest in graphic design. She married Scott Schupbach on August 13, 1988. Karel was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and family vacations. She cherished her social life and made spending time with family and friends a priority. Karel will be remembered for her generous heart, refreshingly honest spirit, fierce loyalty, and the joy she found in bringing people together. Surviving are her husband of nearly 38 years, Scott; daughter, Shelby Marcum and husband Eric; son, Chad Schupbach and wife Nichole; four grandchildren, Avery, Myla, and Everly Marcum, and Kellen Schupbach, with one more grandchild on the way; siblings, Susan Guthrie, Deb Gerard and husband Craig, Steve Failing, and twin sister Kathy Crisan-Beaucamp and husband Bob; mother-in-law, Diane Sovis; sisters-in-law, Darcy Schupbach and Stephanie Wood; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Betty Failing.
