VanPETTEN, Karen Marie -- Age 68, of Florida, formerly of Fenton, died April 24, 2012. Funeral mass will be celebrated 10:30 AM Saturday, May 5, 2012 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 N. Adelaide St., Fenton with Rev. Fr. David Harvey celebrant. Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visitation will be held 4-7 PM Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton where a rosary will be prayed at 7 PM Friday evening. Karen was born September 10, 1943 in Flint, the daughter of Carl and Virginia (White) Kontyko. She married Richard VanPetten and he preceded her in death. Mrs. VanPetten was a school teacher for many years and retired from Lake Fenton Schools. She also volunteered as a substitute teacher at St. John School. She was an active member of St. John where she served as a Eucharist Minister. Surviving are: son, Steve T. VanPetten of Florida; three siblings, Karl Kontyko and wife, Joyce of Onsted, MI, Kathy Peterson of Haslett, MI, Kristine Bloomer and husband, Craig of Sugarland, TX; many nieces and nephews also survive.
