Kenneth E. LARZELERE

February 11, 1924 — November 21, 2013

LARZELERE, Kenneth Eugene "Gene" Of Flint, age 89, died Thursday, November 21, 2013 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 1, 2013 at Woodside Church, 1401 E. Court St., Flint, with visitation at 2:30 p.m., Rev. James G. Kellermann officiating. Interment at Riverside Cemetery in Clinton and Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. Contributions may be made to Genesee County Habitat for Humanity or a charity of choice. He was born on February 11, 1924 in Clinton, Michigan to Kenneth S. and Mary F. (Williams) Larzelere. He had fond memories of his childhood in Clinton, and then Toledo and Sylvania, Ohio. Gene served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He attended Michigan State College where he met Joan Helen Wood. They married on September 11, 1948 and were together for 63 years until her death on April 6, 2012. He was employed as a psychologist at Jackson Prison, then at GMI (Kettering University) as a Professor in the Humanities Department from 1955 until retirement in 1985. He was in a golf league at GMI, and loved golfing whenever and wherever he could. He also enjoyed time with his family, bicycling, gardening, ice skating, cross country skiing, art and photography. Surviving are: children, David and Katie (Shupe) Larzelere of Brighton, James and Cathy (Razy) Larzelere of Howell, Carol and Stephen Larzelere-Kellermann of Lapeer, Jo Ellen Larzelere of Flint; grandchildren, Jonathan Larzelere, Emily Kellermann, Christopher and Anna (Robideau) Larzelere, David Kellermann, Teagan Larzelere; brothers and sisters, Catherine (the late Harry) Ducy, Keith and Mary Lou Larzelere, Donald and Nancy Larzelere, Elinor (the late Kenton) Reis, Charles and Carlene Larzelere; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Thomas and Mitzi Wood of Longmont, Colorado; several nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Linda (Bushey) Larzelere; aunts, Helen Larzelere and Lucile Einfeldt; and three dear nieces. The family is grateful for the compassionate care Kenneth received by doctors and staff at McLaren Health Care Center, Davita Burton, and from Dr. Haffajee and staff.
