Larry Fitzgerald, 78, of Lennon, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 23, 2026, surrounded by family and close friends. Larry is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nancy; his sons, Shawn (Lisa) and Brian (Jillian); and his grandchildren, Connor, Avery, Hayden, Harper and Liam.

Larry was born to the late George and Leona (Hardy) Fitzgerald on September 15, 1947, in Flint, Michigan. He joined the U.S. Army in 1966 and admirably served his country for two years in the Vietnam War. Larry married his high school sweetheart, Nancy, in 1969 and later began their family.

Larry worked at General Motors/AC Delco and enjoyed a long retirement doing the things he loved, with the people he loved. Larry and Nancy enjoyed going to garage and estate sales, finding “treasures” they would later sell in their booth at Sister’s Vintiques. They also loved going to the movie theater on Sundays and the auction on Mondays.

When garage sale season ended, Larry looked forward to hunting season. He enjoyed hunting with his life-long friends in Houghton Lake, and later in Whittemore with his sons and grandchildren. He loved spending time with his boys and teaching his grandchildren how to hunt. He got more enjoyment watching his family bag a trophy buck than getting one of his own. But his favorite part of deer camp was sitting around the table with his family, sipping peppermint schnapps and playing cards.

A celebration of Larry’s life will be held at the Venice Township Hall, 960 S. New Lothrop Road in Lennon on Sunday, September 27, 2026, 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. The family encourages all who knew Larry to attend and share their favorite memories. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com
