Larry Lorne Schutt

Larry Lorne Schutt, age 78, of Swartz Creek, passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at McLaren Flint. Funeral service will take place at 2:00 PM on Monday, October 5, 2026, at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek (The service will be live streamed and can be viewed via Larry's obituary page at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com), with Fr. Steve Makranyi officiating. Visitation will take place from 12:00 PM until the time of service on Monday. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Larry was born on August 22, 1948, in Flint, the son of the late Lorne and Helen (Bivens) Schutt. He was a 1966 graduate of Bendle High School. He married Ann Marie Makranyi February 19, 1998 in Clarkston. He had resided in Swartz Creek for the past 15 years coming from Flint. Larry proudly enlisted in the United States Navy on September 3, 1969. He served during the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge on August 31, 1973.

Following his military service, Larry began his career with General Motors, where he worked as an electrical engineer for 40 years before retiring. He was a 50 year member of the Michigan High School Athletic Association and enjoyed officiating football, volleyball, and basketball. Larry was also an avid Disney fan and had a special appreciation for all things Disney. He had a giving heart.

Larry is survived by his wife, Ann Schutt; sons, Paul (Melissa) Schutt of Palo Alto, CA, and Benjamin Schutt of Swartz Creek, MI; stepchildren, Theresa Serr of Rutland, VT, Anthony (Kristina) Serr of Flushing, MI, Bethany (Sean) Fitzgerald of Houston, TX, Amy (Mario) Vivo of Warren, MI, and Kathryn (Darrin) Bjornson of Grandon, ND; 10 grandchildren, Madeline, Sebastian, Abraham, Anthony Ayden, Shaelynn, Joseph, Alexander, Nikolas, Matthew, and Jonathon; brothers, Don and Edward Hodgeson; and several nieces and nephews, and his faithful four legged companions, Marley and Cider.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his first wife, Jennie; and three brothers, Pastor Gerald, Ted, Richard, and Howard Hodgeson.
