Lucille Edith "Les" Hotchkiss

HOTCHKISS, Lucille Edith 'Les' - Age 82, of Fenton, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2026. A service to celebrate Les's life will be held Sunday, July 26 at Lucky's Steakhouse in Fenton (2-4 pm). Those desiring may make contributions to the Fenton Educational Foundation or the Carman-Ainsworth Educational Foundation.

Les was born May 4, 1944, in Dayton, KY, the daughter of Harry and Bertha (Williams) Stillwell. She was a 1962 graduate of Highlands High School in Ft. Thomas, KY. She received a bachelor's degree in education from Ball State University in 1966 and a master's degree in library science from the University of Michigan in 1968. Les worked in education for over 30 years, mostly in the Carman-Ainsworth school district where she was an influential mentor to many students and a tireless role model to colleagues as a teacher, librarian, media specialist, and administrator.

She had resided in Fenton since 1974, coming from Livonia and then Flint, first living on Silver Lake for 15 years and then in Whisperwood for 30 years. Les retired in 2002 and spent the first 12 years of her retirement travelling the world with close friends, visiting over 20 countries, 12 states, and frequenting family in San Francisco and later Seattle. Her last trip was her ultimate dream - taking her sons, daughters-in-laws, and grandkids on a Disney cruise in 2019.

Surviving are: her sons, Jeff (Shannon) Hotchkiss of Seattle, WA and Eric (Sheri) Hotchkiss of Clarkston; grandchildren, Nick, Ellie, Tyler, Claire, Cole, and Dean Hotchkiss; and her nieces and nephews. Les's grandchildren were the love of her life and her proudest achievement.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Bertha Stillwell; and brothers, Dick and Wayne Stillwell. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
