Marcella was born on March 7, 1931, in Dyersburg, Tennessee, the daughter of the late John and Gurtha (Pratt) Joslin. She was united in marriage to Fred Mallard on March 10, 1956, in Hernandez, Mississippi, and they shared 67 loving years together until his passing on July 28, 2023. To have known Marcella was truly a blessing. She had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel welcomed, loved, and accepted. Marcella devoted 17 years of service as a bus driver for Carman Schools before retiring in 1986. A faithful servant of the Lord, she became a member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in 1956, where she worshiped for 63 years, before later joining Immanuel Baptist Church, where she remained active for another six years. Her love for the Lord was reflected in her deep devotion to her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, her “adopted family” whom she welcomed as her own, and her many friends. She loved wholeheartedly, and everyone she cared for knew it. Marcella was a shining example of a Godly woman. She found great joy in cooking, baking, canning, quilting, and gardening, and she lovingly passed these talents on to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren—especially delighting in sharing her baked goods with others.
She is survived by her loving children, Marty Mallard, Mary Camp, Glenn (Shirley) Mallard, and Judy (Tim) Terry; seven grandchildren, Mitch, Alisha, Christopher (Katy), Rachel, Lauren (Ash), Shelby (Josh), and Katelyn (Garrett); ten great-grandchildren, Olivia, Kane, Collin, Conner, Malyia, Jaylee, Hudson, Caroline, Marcella, and Amelia; sister, Monette Joslin; sister-in-law, Silby Joslin; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Marcella was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Ricky Camp, and several brothers and sisters. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
