Marcella Clara O'Brien

OBRIEN, Marcella Clara  Age 93, of Durand, died Thursday, July 17, 2003 at Durand Convalescent Center. Funeral mass will be celebrated 11 AM Monday, July 21, 2003 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3139 Hogarth Ave., Flint with Rev. Msgr. Richard Groshek celebrant. Interment will be held at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Saturday and Sunday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. A rosary will be prayed at 4 PM Sunday afternoon at the funeral home. Visitation will also be held 10 AM until the time of service Monday at the church. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Durand Knights of Columbus Council #7955 Scholarship Fund. Mrs. OBrien was born June 21, 1910 in Maple Grove Township, the daughter of Frank and Barbara (Krupp) Schlachter. She married James Walter OBrien on May 20, 1933 and he preceded her in death on August 22, 1983. She had resided in Flint most of her life, most recently living in Durand. Mrs. OBrien was a wonderful cook; she loved gardening, knitting and crocheting. Most of all she loved her family. Surviving are: daughter, Barbara and husband, Donald Quick of Traverse City; son, Thomas and wife, Connie OBrien of Durand; daughter-in-law, Marjorie OBrien of Flint; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Marie OConnor of Royal Oak; many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by: parents; two sons, James Pat OBrien in January 2002, Donald E. OBrien in March 2003; two brothers, Eugene and John Schlachter; sister, Helena Schlachter.
