Margaret Elizabeth Sackrider, of Fenton, lived a long and vibrant life passing away peacefully on January 15, 2026. At 91 years old, she left behind a legacy stitched together with care, adventure, and quiet courage.
Margaret was born on March 3, 1934, in Ames, Iowa, the daughter of the late Perry and Peggy Moore. She graduated from Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she played field hockey and cultivated a lifelong love of outdoor activities. In her younger years, Margaret was a synchronized swimmer, served as a camp counselor for the YWCA, and worked as a physical education teacher, inspiring countless young people to embrace an active and healthy life. Later, she became the co-owner of Marce’s Hallmark in Fenton, where she loved helping others celebrate milestones and everyday moments alike.
She delighted in crafting, her hands constantly turning thread and fabric into treasures. Cross-stitch, crochet, and sewing were not just hobbies, but expressions of her love. Each carefully made piece was a gift of time, patience, and thoughtfulness. Her family will forever treasure the sewn creations that came straight from her heart.
An adventurous soul, she loved the outdoors while camping, swimming, or spending time at her cherished cabin. Margaret enjoyed traveling and sight seeing Michigan landmarks with her family. Her adventurous spirit and appreciation for nature remained strong throughout her life.
Above all, Margaret will be remembered for her warmth and the quiet courage with which she faced life’s challenges. After 23 years of marriage, Margaret lost the love of her life, Chuck. At a time when grief could have overwhelmed her, she chose instead to stand firm for her three children, becoming their constant source of love. With resilience born of both necessity and deep devotion, she carried the weight of two parents with grace. That same strength her children relied upon became a gift to her grandchildren, who were blessed to know her as a grandmother whose love and example will remain with them always.
In her later years, she faced the struggles of dementia surrounded by the love of family and the compassionate care of the staff at Symphony Linden, who supported her with kindness in the final two years. She will be deeply missed by her beloved sons and treasured grandchildren, whose lives were filled with the love, warmth, and joy she so freely gave.
A memorial service to celebrate Margaret’s life will be held on Monday, January 26, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton. Visitation will take place from 1:00-4:00 p.m. on Sunday and from 10:00 am until the time of service on Monday at the funeral home.
She is survived by her sons, Jeff (Debbie) Sackrider and Michael (Christine) Sackrider; and her grandchildren, Kailee, Logan, David, and Daniel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Charles Sackrider; her daughter, Ann Sackrider; her daughter-in-law, Stephanie Sackrider; and her sister, Judy Moore.
