Mark Leslie McAfee of Swartz Creek, MI, aged 73, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Upon his wishes, cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Mark was born on September 26, 1952, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Donald and MaryLee (Thomas) McAfee. He graduated from Fraser High School in 1970 and later attended Ferris State University, where he met the love of his life, Debby (Smith) McAfee. They were married on August 12, 1972, in Flint, Michigan, and shared 52 beautiful years together. Mark worked on the railroad for 35 years, beginning as a clerk, advancing to operator, and later working several desks as a train dispatcher. He truly enjoyed his work and had countless stories to share. He had a passion for collecting and trading baseball cards and was known for being incredibly methodical and organized in everything he did. He also had a deep love for the Detroit Tigers; Mickey Lolich was his favorite player. Mark was known for making others feel special, always remembering their favorite snacks and surprising them with them. Mark and Debby shared a deep love for music and attended 55 concerts together, creating lifelong memories. In their younger years, they enjoyed playing tennis and participating in bowling leagues. Above all, Mark’s greatest joy was having his family together under one roof, playing card games like bid euchre and farkle. Mark is lovingly survived by his children, Carrie Clark (McAfee) and Ryan McAfee (Dana). He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Madison, Jaxen, and Austyn Clark, as well as Tori and Miles McAfee, and a cherished bonus grandfather to Alexia Planer and Alex, Austin, and Ella Maiberger. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Sherry Kingsbury (Colin) and Karey Smith, along with many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Mark was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Debby McAfee; his parents, Donald and MaryLee McAfee; his brother, Larry McAfee; sister-in-law, Elaine McAfee; father-in-law, Jack Smith; mother-in-law, Maxine Smith; brother-in-law, Jim Smith; and many treasured family members and friends. Mark will be deeply missed and forever loved. His memory will live on in the stories, laughter, and traditions he leaves behind.
