GEORGE, Maureen E. -- Age 76, of Swartz Creek, went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 24. 2014, surrounded by her loving family. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 AM Tuesday, October 28 at St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church, Swartz Creek Fr. Louis Ekka celebrant. Interment will follow at 1 PM at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-9 PM Monday, with a 7 PM Rosary at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road Swartz Creek. Visitation Tuesday will be at the church from 10-11 AM. Those desiring may make contributions to the Alzheimer's Association. Maureen was born on Valentine's Day in 1938 in Flint, to Robert and Margaret Gannon. She was a graduate of St. Michael's High School in June of 1956. She married her devoted husband Harold L. George in Flint on June 30, 1956. Together they had nine children. Maureen worked many years at Swartz Creek Community Schools and served as a Trustee on the Board of Education. She retired from Buick. She was a member of St. Mary's Queen of Angels where she taught catechism and sang in the church choir. Maureen was an amazing wife, mother and homemaker. She was an avid reader. She loved to travel, play cards, and go to movies and restaurants. While residing in Florida, it brought her great joy taking her kids and grandkids to Disney World. Her memory will be cherished by: her husband Harold; her children, Robert (Karen) of Flint, Joseph (Nancy) of Flint, Suzanne (Thomas) Kelley of ArlingtonVA, David (Rhonda) of Katy, TX, Bonnie George of Swartz Creek, Bridget (Roger) Berens of Grand Rapids, Harold "Chip" (Michaela) of Cadillac, John (Kelly) of Pickerington, OH; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; her beloved sister Kathleen (Ken) Perry of Dunellon, FL; Aunt Clara Molina; best friend Janet Sulz; nieces, nephews, her Irish cousins; and her fur babies Toto and Rusty. Maureen was preceded in death by her daughter Mary Russell. Maureen's greatest legacy to her children was her love for their father and her unwavering love of Jesus and her Catholic faith. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to all of her caregivers at Vista Springs in Wyoming, Michigan and Spectrum Health Hospice where she received excellent care.
