RYAN, Maurice C. - Age 85, of Linden, died November 5, 2012. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 AM Thursday, November 8, 2012 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 N. Adelaide St., Fenton. Fr. David Harvey celebrant. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5-9 PM Tuesday and 1-3 & 5-9 PM Wednesday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Linden Chapel, 209 E. Broad St., Linden. A Rosary will be prayed at 7 PM Wednesday. Visitation will also be held at the church from 9 AM until the time of service Thursday. Those desiring may make contributions to the St. John GIFT Campaign. Maurice was born January 19, 1927 in Argentine, the son of Frank and Faye (Lockwood) Ryan. On graduating from Linden High School in 1945, he enlisted in the Army, achieved to the rank of sergeant in the Military Police and served as member of the Honor Guard for Gen. Douglas MacArthur during the occupation of Japan. Maurice enjoyed hunting, camping and travelling with his family. In retirement he and Betty took their motorhome across the country several times. He took pride in restoring classic cars and repairing anything that moved. Maurice was an usher at St. John the Evangelist church for over 50 years and member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a lifetime member of the Linden VFW and Post Commander 1952-3. He was a committed parent volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America. Maurice retired in 1983 following a 35 year career with General Motors at the Milford Proving Ground as a mechanic, mechanic supervisor and garage manager. Surviving are: wife of 59 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Ryan; four sons, Maurice (Cynthia) Ryan, Joseph (Pamela) Ryan, Timothy (Dawn) Ryan, Michael Ryan; grandchildren, Sean, Danielle, Jennifer, Daniel, Caila and Jessica; brothers, Francis Ryan, William (Carlene) Ryan. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Thomas and John; brother, Leo Joseph; sisters, Mary Ellen King and Margaret Haney.
