Michael Putvin LaMothe, age 84, of Linden, formerly of Grand Blanc, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, September 30, 2025. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 N. Adelaide St., Fenton, Rev. Fr. David Harvey celebrant. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton, where a Knights of Columbus memorial and vigil service will be held at 7 PM. The family will also receive friends from 10:00 AM until the time of the mass at the church on Tuesday. Those desiring may make contributions to the Children's Leukemia Foundation.
Michael was born on October 12, 1940, in Hubble, Michigan, the son of the late Earl and Margaret (Putvin) LaMothe. He graduated from William G. Mather High School in Munising, attended Flint Junior College, Northern Michigan University, and went on to earn his master’s degree from Central Michigan University. On November 9, 1963, Michael married Lois Ann Schwartz, with whom he shared 45 years of love and family life until her passing.
Michael devoted his career to education and community service. He began as a teacher with Linden Schools in 1968 and went on to serve as Adult High School Principal (1969-1993), Director of Community Education (1974-1993), and Assistant Superintendent (1981-1993). He also worked as a Retention Specialist Instructor at Detroit College of Business. His visionary leadership established the Linden Community Education Program and the Linden Senior Citizen Program, leaving a lasting impact on the community.
His service extended well beyond the school system. Michael was a proud member of Fenton Council 7418 Knights of Columbus, a loaned executive with United Way for over 25 years, and a recipient of the Friends of 4-H award. He was recognized for 25 years of service by the United Way. He also owned and operated his own corporation, Management Resource Associates, Inc., and was a longtime member and usher at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. He served with his wife as a counselor to families affected by leukemia, taught CCD classes for high school students at Sacred Heart and was a dedicated member of the Genesee County Community Education Association.
He is survived by his wife, Renata Skurka-LaMothe; his daughter, Lauretta (Mike) LaMothe-Ryan; his son, Daniel (Tracy) LaMothe; grandchildren Nathan, Gabrielle, Ella, and Anna; and stepdaughter, Renata (James) Johnson.
In addition to his parents and first wife, Lois, Michael was preceded in death by his son, Michael "Beau" LaMothe; and his sisters, Lauretta Montini and Jacqueline Tate. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com
