MURPHY, Michael Patrick - Age 78, of Linden, died Wednesday, December 17, 2014. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 2:00 PM Monday, December 22, 2014 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 N. Adelaide St. Fenton. Fr. Dwight Ezop and Fr. David Harvey concelebrating. Interment following in Fairview Cemetery, Linden. Visitation will be held at Sharp Funeral Homes, Linden Chapel, 209 E. Broad St., Linden Sunday from 1-8 PM and at church Monday from 1:00 PM until the time of Mass. A vigil service will be held at the funeral home Sunday at 7:00 PM. Those desiring may make contributions to St. John G.I.F.T. Campaign or a charity of ones choice. Michael was born December 28, 1935 in Flint the son of Paul and Kathleen (Wines) Murphy. He was a 1953 graduate of Linden High School and a 1957 graduate of Michigan State University with a degree in Accounting. He married Lorraine White of Gaines on June 22, 1957 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Fenton. Michael was a long time business man in Linden, he started Murphy's Department Store in 1958 and operated it for 33 years. He partnered with Blythe Selden to own and operate Linden Village Laundromat in 1969 and the Village Hub in 1970, which both continue to be in business today. He was a lifetime member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. He was a member of the Linden Kiwanis for 54 years and treasurer for 35 years. Member of the Even Dozen Investment Club for 43 years. He also was elected and served as a Linden School Board member for seven years during the late 1970's. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lorraine; six sons, Timothy of Linden, Steven (Dalynn) of Fenton, Christopher of Linden, Dennis (Jacqueline) of Fenton, Michael Scott (Jacquelyn) of Fenton, Matthew (Annette) of Linden; grandchildren, Amber (Jim) Polselli, Ashley Murphy, Heather (Jeremy) Josephson, Shannon Murphy, Callie Murphy, Courtney Evans, Sean Murphy, Danielle Murphy, Nathan Hallmark, Kayla Murphy, Mallory Murphy, Emily Murphy, Wyatt Murphy, Jack Murphy, Sam Murphy, and Joe Murphy; great grandchildren, Chloe and Addison Josephson, Eva, Skylar, and Bree Polselli, Celena Antonio, Jahdey King, Abbey Link, Jamon Link, and Carson Evans.
