Mitchell Lee Karas

July 6, 1959 — March 13, 2026

Flushing

The family of Mitchell Karas is deeply saddened to announce his passing on March 13, 2026. He was 66.

Born on July 6, 1959, in Queens, New York, Mitch lived a life filled with joy, humor, and kindness for others. After practicing law for 35 years, Mitch spent his years serving his community through his true passion — food. Through his catering, kebabs, pasta, and bagels, he touched the hearts and stomachs of everyone he encountered. He was a graduate of Queens College, Cooley Law School, and Oakland Community College; a past president of Temple Beth El in Flint; and a devoted New York Yankees and Detroit Lions fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Beverly and Milton Karas, and is survived by his wife, Sheryl; his sister, Jill Bookbinder (Lewis); his son, Matthew; his daughter, Rachel Cohen (Zachary) and his grandson, Eli Cohen.

A celebration of life will be held March 19, 2026 at 12 p.m. at Temple Beth El, 5150 Calkins Road, Flint, MI 48532. Mrs. Lisa Kander will officiate. A private burial will follow at Flint Memorial Park. Shiva services will be held at Temple Beth El at 7 p.m. March 19 and on Zoom at 3 p.m. on March 20.

In lieu of sending flowers, contributions may be made to World Central Kitchen or Southern Poverty Law Center.

Arrangements by Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek, MI 48473. Online condolences may be posted on the obituaries page of www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
