Morris Abraham ROSENTHAL

November 20, 1923 — January 16, 2013

ROSENTHAL, Morris Abraham - Age 89, of Grand Blanc, died Wednesday, January 16, 2013 in Florida. Services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, January 18, 2013 at Sharp Funeral Home, 6063 Fenton Road, Flint, with Rabbi Yisroel Weingarten officiating. Burial immediately following at Machpelah Cemetery, Flint. Those desiring may make contributions to the Temple Beth El Youth Group or Temple Beth El. Mr. Rosenthal was born November 20, 1923 in Blairsville, PA the third son of David and Sarah (Borck) Rosenthal. He received a Bachelor in Education from Indiana State University Teacher's College in Indiana, PA and he received his Master's Degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He was a veteran of WWII serving in both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy. He married Peppy Naczycz on August 12, 1956 in Flint. Mr Rosenthal was the ultimate teacher who loved teaching. Throughout his life he always spoke fondly of the time in the 1960's when he taught the inmates at Jackson Prison. Keeping for decades letters written to him by the inmates. He was also very involved in the Flint Teacher's Union in the 1960's and 1970's. For three decades, Mr Rosenthal worked for the Flint Community Schools in many capacities. He taught math, and after school science and drama "for fun". During the school year he taught evening classes at the Mott Adult High School and during the summers he taught and ran Flint math programs. Retirement enabled Mr Rosenthal to immerse himself in his many hobbies. He would golf several times a week during the summer, and bowl serveral times a week during the winter. He loved to play chess, and throughout his life he taught children and adults to play and appreciate the game. His other hobbies were playing the piano and being a voracious reader. Mr. Rosenthal was a support to his family, encouraging his wife to attend college in the 1960's, and attending his son's every hockey game. Surviving are: wife, Peppy; 3 children, Zalmon and wife Rochelle Rosenthal of Brooklyn, NY and their children, Yehuda and Ahuva; Cheri Dickinson and Martin Dickinson of Grand Blanc and their children, Jordan, Erica, and Rachel; and Larry and wife Bonnie Rosenthal of Arlington, VA and their children, Jack and Ethan; 2 sisters, Vivian Rosenthal and Frances and husband Murray Stein both of Pittsburgh, PA; brother-in-law, Michael and wife Sue Naczycz of Fenton; adopted sister Eileen Miller and husband David of Flint, plus several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Symon and Phillip Rosenthal. Online tributes may be posted on the obituaries page of www.sharpfuneralhomes.
