Nancy Ellen Mason

Nancy Ellen Mason of Linden, MI passed away peacefully Saturday, January 31 of natural causes. She grew up as Nancy Walsh in Springfield, OH, the youngest of five, having four older brothers. She graduated with honors from Springfield High School in 1950. She was Chair of the Women’s Fortnightly Music Club while at Springfield High and was actively involved in the social life of her community. Nancy attended Michigan State University where she met the love of her life, Jack Ruterbusch of Bay City, MI. She and Jack graduated together from Michigan State in 1954 and were married at the Chapel on MSU’s campus that same year. Nancy and Jack had three sons together and raised their family in Flint. Nancy was known as a civic minded mother who wrote for the Flint Chamber of Commerce, taught English and ran a GED lab for Mott Adult High School, and taught Business Math at Mott Community College.

After the passing of her husband, Jack, she eventually found love again and married Stewart Mason in 1989. They were married for eleven years until the passing of Stew in 2000. Nancy then became active at the Loose Senior Center in Linden, volunteering as a tax preparer for seniors at the center.

Nancy lit up the room with her infectious smile, kind words and willingness to help anyone in need. She will be greatly missed. She is survived by her three sons: William Ruterbusch (Sally) of Howell, Brad Ruterbusch of Flint, and Randy (Jill) of Portage, MI. Stepchildren Mark Mason (Ruth) of Linden, Sue Reese (Bill) of Ludington, MI and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by Jack Ruterbusch, Stewart Mason, stepson Steve Mason, her parents and siblings.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jack Ruterbusch Scholarship Fund at the Foundation for Mott Community College.

A celebration of life will be held at Shiawassee Shores Clubhouse on Saturday, May 2nd, time to be determined.
