Nicholas "Nick" Berklich - age 86 of Grand Blanc, passed away on July 2, 2026. In accordance with Nick's wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be announced and held at a future date.
Nick was born on July 6, 1939 in Ypsilanti, Michigan to the late Nicholas and Myrna Berklich. He married Bonnie Kay Vagts on June 23, 1963. Nick dedicated his entire career to the game of golf with many highlights and notable accomplishments. He began his professional career as the Assistant Golf Professional at Barton Hills Country Club in Ann Arbor before taking the same role at Grosse Ile Golf & Country Club. He then transitioned to being the Head Golf Professional from 1965-2000 at Warwick Hills Country Club where he mentored numerous assistance toward advancing their careers in addition to having 30 Evans Scholarships awarded. Nick was also honored to serve on the 1966 committee to redesign Warwick Hills with famed golf course with architect, Joe Lee and be the longest serving host of the PGA Tournament, Buick Open (1965-1969 and 1978-2000).
Professional honors include 55 years of professional golf experience. Member of the PGA Quarter Century and Half Century Club for having served with honor for 25 and 50 years respectively. 2000 Michigan Golf Professional of the Year. 1973 Secretary of the Michigan PGA. Member of the National PGA Committee. Honorary Lifetime Member of the Warwick Golf & Country Club upon his retirement in 2000. Genesee All Star Golf Classic Golf Tournament Honoree.
Nick's playing accolades encompassed playing in the 1964 US Open at Congressional Golf and Country Club (Ken Venturi won the tournament). Being one of three Michigan golfers to qualify for the 1964 Carling World Open at Oakland Hills Country Club - the world's largest golf tournament. Winner of the 70+ division of the 2013 Michigan PGA Senior Championship. He played in nine National Golf Club Professional Championships, eight National Senior Club Professional Championships, all of the Michigan PGA Tournament of Champions, three National Seniors Championship Tournaments and served as a Golf Professional Volunteer for the Flint Junior Golf Association.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Bonnie. Sons, Scott (Jayne) Berklich of Grand Blanc and Jody Berklich of Lake Orion. Grandchildren, Charlie of Portland, OR; Elizabeth of Grand Rapids; Nicholas of Grand Blanc; Danielle of Grand Blanc. Great-grandchildren, Tessa; Sam; Finn. Nick will be welcomed into Heaven by his parents.
