Obituary for Richard White Carver

Carver, Richard White - Age 89, of Swartz Creek, died Monday, December 25, 2017. A graveside service with military honors will be announced at a later date. Richard was born May 24, 1928 in Mt. Morris. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S.Army. He married Lucille Collison on September 16, 1961 in Flint and she preceded him in death on November 12, 2016. He had resided in Swartz Creek for the past 56 years living in the home he built and loved. Richard worked as a tool maker for GM Chevrolet at the V8 Engine Plant and retired in 1994 after 42 years of service. His dream was to retire to Florida so winters were spent in Zephyrhills, Florida and summers in Swartz Creek, Michigan. Richard loved to tell a good story and many conversations would lead to a discussion of his love for music. He began playing the trombone in school and continued in the Army Band, Flint Concert Band, Holly Festival Band and the Lakeland City Concert Band. Outside of his never-ending love for his wife Lucille, music and dancing were what truly brought joy to his life.
After retiring to Zephryhills, FL they became members of the Elks Lodge #2731 and many a night was spent with friends attending dances and listening to big bands. After a long year of missing the love of his life and favorite dance partner they were reunited on Christmas Day and without a doubt took her for a spin around the dance floor. Surviving are son, David and wife Donna Carver of Lemont, IL; daughter, Carol Neumann of Grand Blanc; grandchildren, Bryan and Kaitlyn Carver, and Ashlyn Neumann. He was also preceded in death by his mother, Thelma White Carver. Online tributes may be posted on the obituaries page of www.sharpfuneralhomes.com. Those desiring may make contributions to Flint Concern Band in Richard's memory. Please send donations to Sharp Funeral Home in Swartz Creek.
