Odis Francis MATNEY

MATNEY, Odis Francis - Age 76, of Fenton, died Sunday, December 16, 2012. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd, Fenton, with Elder Randall Batey officiating. Burial in Great Lake National Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be held 2-5 & 7-9 PM Tuesday and 10 AM until the time of servive Wednesday. Those desiring may make contributions to the American Cancer Society or Reach to Recovery. Odis was born March 7, 1936 in Hughes, AR, the son of Arvie Leroy and Bartie Gertrude (Johnson) Matney. He was a graduate of Greene County Tech High School in Paragould, AR. He was a Sergeant in U.S. Army. Odis worked on a plantation in Arkansas as a teenager. He married Patricia Batey his high school sweetheart on August 24, 1956. He retired in 1986 from GM Truck and Bus after 32 1/2 years of service, where he was a General Foreman. Odis had resided in the Flint area since 1955, coming from Arkansas. He was past president of the Lake Fenton Athletic Boosters. He also officiated High School football and baseball games. Odis enjoyed Fishing, camping, snowmobiling, and off road motorcycling with his son. Surviving are: his wife of 57 years, Patricia "Pat"; 2 children, Cheryl Green and husband Charles Jr. of Ann Arbor and Alan Matney and wife Kathy of Ann Arbor; 5 grandchildren, Charles Green and wife Cece, Jennifer Salazar and husband George, Jason Matney, Bryan Matney, and Laura Matney; 4 great grandchildren, Oksana and Lincoln Green, Kasen and Johanna Salazar; 3 sisters, Margaret Alshouse of Florida, Sarah McMillin and husband Leroy of Grand Blanc, and Patricia Turman and husband Larry of Arkansas; brother, Ray Matney and wife Joyce of Missouri; several nieces and nephews.
