Opal R. (Parker) Herndon, 100 years old, of Hanceville, Alabama, formerly of Michigan, received her Heavenly reward on June 9th, 2026.
A Celebration of Life service will be 2:00 PM Monday, June 15, 2026, at Cullman Funeral Home, 461 US Route 278, Cullman, Alabama, 35055 with visitation from 12:00 PM until the time of the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Hopewell Cemetery, Hanceville alongside of her beloved Paul.
Opal was born July 28,1925 to George Washington Parker and Mettie (Chandler Parker) In Parma, Missouri. She married the love of her life, Paul J. Herndon on July 19, 1946. They spent 61 1/2 happy years together before he passed in 2007. They raised 3 children, Sharee, Jeff and Tom. They also gave a home to many family members in their times of need. Opal retired from AC Spark Plug in 1982 after 27 1/2 years. She loved her savior and served Him from the age of 9 years. She loved baking, candy making, crafting, fishing, and feeding "everyone" who would eat. She was a member of Hopewell Road Church of God in Hanceville, Alabama.
Preceding her in death are her husband, parents and several brothers and sisters.
She was the last of her siblings.
Surviving are her children; Sharee (Gary) Smith of Davison, Michigan, Jeff Herndon of Hanceville, Alabama, Tom Parker of Bancroft, Michigan, and special "daughter" Diane Herndon; five grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
