SOUTH, Patrick "Joe" Wayne - Age 81, of Flushing, died Friday, February 21, 2014 at home. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, February 25 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek, with visitation prior from 12 Noon until the time of service. Services will follow at 2:30 PM at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. The family has designated Wounded Warriors or charity of one's choice for memorial contributions rather than flowers. Joe was born November 30, 1932 in Kennett, MO. He is a Purple Heart Veteran, served 2 years in the Korean War with the U.S. Army, 3 years in their Stand By Reserves and then 6 years in the U.S. Marine Corp Reserves. He worked at the old GM Ternstedt for 11 years. He then spent 34 years in police work, retiring in 1998 from Mt. Morris Twp. Police Department as Lieutenant Detective. He loved hunting, camping and the rugged outdoors. Joe was a life member of Genesee Lodge # 174 F&AM and a life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart. Surviving is his wife of 57 years, Sandra; 3 sisters, Burdeen Ridge of AR, Peggy Wright and Martha Patton of MO; brother, Max of MO. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers and a sister.
