Paul Bernard Johnson

November 7, 1932 — September 25, 2025

Lowell

JOHNSON Paul Bernard passed away peacefully on September 25, 2025, at his home, in Maple Ridge Manor Lowell, Michigan. He was 92 years old. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until the time of service on Tuesday, at Sharp Funeral Homes and Cremation Center, located at 6063 Fenton Road, Grand Blanc. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, September 30, at the funeral home. Following the service, a light luncheon will be provided. After the luncheon, interment will take place at Crestwood Memorial Cemetery.

Paul was born on November 7, 1932, in Munising, Michigan, to the late Carl W. and Marie (McNamara) Johnson. He was raised on the family farm in Kiva, where he developed the strong work ethic that would define his life. In 1950, Paul moved to the Flint area in search of work and opportunity.

On February 16, 1952, he married the love of his life and girl next door, Vergil Mae Brooks. They shared 71 wonderful years of marriage before Vergil went home to be with the Lord.

From 1953 to 1955, Paul proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict. Following his service, he built a career as a highly skilled trim carpenter, working for over 40 years before retiring in 1997. Even after retirement, Paul continued using his talents to help his children and grandchildren with countless building and repair projects.

Paul loved the Lord and was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, where he enjoyed contributing to church projects. He deeply loved his family and was especially proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was often found on the floor playing with the kids at family gatherings, laughing and telling stories. His joyful spirit, warm smile, and infectious laugh brightened every room he entered.

A man with a servant’s heart, Paul was known for his kindness, generosity, and love of music-especially when it came to dancing.

Paul is survived by his six children: Debbie (Dick) Dixon, Diane (Dale) Thompson, Kathy (Ron) Fetter, Ken (Jean) Johnson, Jeff (Dawn) Johnson, and Mike (Keely) Johnson; eleven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Violet Fezzey, and his brother-in-law, Howard Ouellette.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Vergil; his parents, Carl and Marie Johnson; his brothers Lawrence “Buckey,” Keith, Donald, and Gorden Johnson; his sisters Margaret Lemire, Gertrude Johnson, Frances Johnson, Teresa Rodriguez, Grace Ouellette, and Agnes Moore; and his son-in-law, Marvin Holdorf.

Paul's legacy of faith, love, hard work, and joyful living will continue to inspire all who knew him.
