Penny Jean (Hetrick) Fausey, age 78, of Fenton, Michigan, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2025, at Charter Senior Living in Linden, Michigan surrounded by love. Born on August 23, 1946, in Fremont, Ohio, Penny lived a life defined by intelligence, humor, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to her family and community. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Don Fausey; siblings Albert (Jane) Hetrick, Jr., Ernest (Barbara) Hetrick, and Sandra (Maury) Gnepper; her parents, Albert and Cleone Hetrick, Sr.; and her son-in-law, Michael Fegan II. Penny is survived by her children: Bryan (Heather) MacPhail-Fausey, and Amanda (Daren) Fegan-Shanholtzer; her treasured grandchildren: Xavier, Alexander (Sarah), Ethan (Jessica), Ian, Taylor, Rebekah (Noah), Harrison, Phoebe, and Oscar; and great-grandchildren: Joanna, Miles, Theodore, Samantha and two more expected later this year. She is also survived by her sister, Patricia (Jerry) Semer, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. Penny held deep affection for her dear friends and former team members whom she considered family: Donna (Tim) Peters, Dawn McGinnis, Carolyn (deceased) (Ulrich) Piekarek, Carol (Wayne) Brown, Kathy (Gerald) Gilmer, Jeff (Carrie) Irvin, and Jane (Mike) Sperry. A proud graduate of Fremont Ross High School (1964), Penny attended The Ohio State University before earning her Bachelor of Science in Accounting with High Honors from the University of Michigan-Flint and a Master’s in Taxation, also with High Honors, from Walsh College. She received her CPA credentials and post secondary degree after accepting a position with Dupuis & Ryden upon obtaining her undergraduate degree. Penny founded Fausey & Associates, CPA in Fenton in 1990. For over 25 years, she poured her heart into the firm, building not just a business, but a family. Her vision created a workplace where people felt valued and supported, with children and grandchildren often welcomed into the office and clients treated with genuine care and respect. A passionate community builder, Penny was instrumental in shaping her adopted hometown of Fenton. She served in numerous leadership roles with the Fenton Area Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, Optimist, and Zonta. She played a key role in launching Fenton Area Resource and Referral, Safety Town, and the Annual Freedom Festival, earning many accolades for her service. Penny was a trailblazer in the accounting profession, stepping into a male-dominated industry in the 1980s and not only succeeding but reshaping the field to be more humane, inclusive, and family-focused. She was a mentor, a leader, a fierce advocate, and a friend to so many. Above all, Penny was a loving and inspiring mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her wit, warmth, and wisdom lit up every room, and her legacy of kindness, excellence, and community impact will live on through all who had the privilege to know her.
