Linden

BURNS, Rex Charles - Age 83, of Linden, passed away July 21, 2025. Rex was born November 23, 1941 in Norton KS, the son of Oran F. and Marie A. (Wilson) Burns. As a “military brat”, he and his family lived around the US and Europe, landing in Michigan for his graduation from Mt Pleasant High School. While completing his Bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University (later earning a Master’s degree as well), he met his wife, Judith (Noland). All in the same week, he graduated from Central, was commissioned as an officer in the US Army, and married Judith. Their love guided them through 53 years of marriage. Rex proudly rose to the rank of Lt. Colonel in the US Army, ultimately serving at the Pentagon. He also taught Geometry at Coldwater High School while in the Army Reserves.

Throughout his whole life, Rex always enjoyed travelling. Rex and Judy’s trailer could be found in the southwest US every winter. Visiting friends and family on their travels was always the highlight of their winter. They also explored internationally. He continued his travels after Judy passed in 2018. Rex was never without his hat, his walking stick, and most importantly, his camera, capturing wonderful images of family, nature, and the majestic landscapes of many national parks and back roads across the country.

Rex had an eclectic taste in music, which he often shared with visitors to his home. While at home, he enjoyed bicycling, tending to his flowers and landscaping his yard. Telling his stories was also one of his favorite activities and after 83 years he had quite a few to share. One of his most beloved was Judy pinning his bars on him.

Rex is survived by his daughters, Constance Burns (Jeff Senser), and Stacie (Jeff) Dahley; grandsons, Nolan and Parker Dahley; sister-in-law, Billye Burns; brother-in-law, Adrian Brill; and several nieces and nephews.

Rex was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Judith A. Burns; brother. Frank Burns; and sister, Nancy Brill. Online tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.

Rex will be interred with full Military Honors on Friday, August 15, 2025 at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. Cremation Arrangements provided by Sharp Funeral Home in Linden.
