Richard "Dick" E. Howd

Richard "Dick" E. Howd, age 88, life-long resident of Gaines, passed away on Wednesday, October 1, 2025. Visitation will be held at 12pm until the time of the Funeral Service at 1pm on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at Sharp Funeral Homes - Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road in Swartz Creek. Richard will be laid to rest next to his late wife, Erma, at New Calvary Catholic Calvary Cemetery in Flint, Michigan. Richard was born on December 2, 1936 in Flint, Michigan to the late Edward & Bertha (Shuetz) Howd. Richard graduated from Flint Central High School. He was employed at General Motors as Skilled Trades for 41 years. He married the love of his life, Erma Mary Dodock on March 2, 1957 and together they were blessed with their four children, Saundra, Rick, Brian and Lori. Richard was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church - Gaines, a volunteer deputy sheriff and a Mason. Richard had always loved sports and supporting his children; he did this through coaching hockey and serving as a scout leader. In his earlier years he enjoyed hunting with family and raced many dirt bikes.

He is survived by his loving children, Saundra (Rex McIntyre) Howd & Brian Howd; 8 grandchildren, Tyson (Crystal), Ian (Sarah), Kyle (Stephanie), Eli (Megan), Jon-Claude, Trevin (Vicki), Alex and Malina (Buck); many great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren. Richard is further survived by his step-grandchildren, sister-in-law, Gay Howd and many nieces and nephews. Richard is further survived by his daughter-in-law, Pamela Howd and many other dear family members.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Erma Mary Howd on October 21, 2016; two children, Rick Howd and Lori Howd; brother, Gary Howd.
