Richard Van WORMER

Van Wormer, Richard H. - Age 84, of Swartz Creek, died Thursday, April 17, 2014. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, G-3139 Hogarth Ave., Flint. Monsignor Richard Groshek celebrant. Visitation will be held at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road, Swartz Creek Monday from 4-8 PM and at church Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of the Mass. A vigil service will be held at the funeral home 7:00 PM Monday. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the American Cancer Society. Richard was born October 11, 1929 in Flint the son of Howard and Thelma (Rogers) Van Wormer. He married Anna Jaksa November 11, 1950 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Flint and she preceded him in death April 29, 2008. He had resided in Swartz Creek for the past 9 years coming from Flint Township where he resided for 47 years. Richard retired in 1988 from GMSPO after 38 years of service. He was a member St. Pius X Catholic Church. He also served in the U.S. Army National Guard. Richard enjoyed golfing and model airplanes. Surviving are: children, Susan (Mark) Engen, Doug Van Wormer, Gary (Jackie) Van Wormer, Scott (Susan) Van Wormer, Roger (Stacy) Van Wormer, and Laura (George) Berg; grandchildren, Amy, Carrie, Jennifer (Michael), Lance, Jill, Ryan (Pon), Morgan, Miles, Madison, and Amelia; great grandchildren, Jonah, Hadley, Makenna, Ava, and Emeri; brother, Dave Van Wormer; and several nieces and nephews.
