HAIGHT, ROBERT LYLE, Age 77, died Monday, September 1, 2014 at his home with his family by his side. Services will be held 2 PM Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Rd., Flint with Pastor Brent Nelson officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held 2-5 and 6-8 PM Friday and 1 PM until time of service Saturday at the funeral home. Bob was born August 26, 1937 to Lyle and Thelma Juanita (Reed) Haight. He graduated from Grand Blanc High School in 1955 and was a member of North Baptist Church and eventually Bethany Baptist Church. He had one sister, Shirley Haight Mendoza, who moved to Pharr, TX and started Children's Haven International, a Christian children's orphanage in Reynosa, Mexico. On December 7, 1955, he was licensed to preach the Gospel by First Baptist Church of Grand Blanc, the youngest person they had ever licensed to that date. Bob studied at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL, where he hoped to become a missionary pilot. He later attended Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI. Bob owned a small passenger plane and for decades, loved to fly family and friends on small trips. In 1972, he purchased a small resort in Tawas City and renamed it Acapulco Beach Cabins. He soon became one of the most popular resort owners in the area and started the local business association Tawas Area Winter And Summer (T.A.W.A.S.), which helped encourage and stimulate local tourism. In 1984, he took over the family business, Flint Advertising Specialties, which was started by his father in 1950. The company celebrated 64 years in business this year. Bob was an active member of business associations/chambers in the Flint area, including the Small Businessmen's Association, SME, Flint & Genesee Chamber and Burton Chamber. He was a member of the Grand Blanc Chamber for nearly 30 years. He and his wife had two children, Valerie Sue Haight of Grand Blanc and Robert Todd Haight of Auburn Hills. For the last 10 years, he has been the constant companion and beloved fianc of Sadie Field of Linden, MI. She was the love of his life. He was preceded in death by mother Thelma in 1977, father Lyle in 1984, sister Shirley in 1995 and grandson Jason in 2002. He is survived by his children Valerie Haight and Robert Todd Haight; step-children Andrew, Hugh, Gidget, Colleen and Cherie; grandchildren Lauren, Rebecca, Nicholas, Casey and Xavier; great-grandchildren Alexis, Cameron and Dominik; nieces and nephews Cleve, Benjamin, Kimberly, Jonathan and Patricia; great-niece Jessica; great-nephew Damian; aunts Georgie and Ruth; many loved friends, neighbors and business associates.
