Born on March 11, 1943, in Monongalia County, West Virginia, Bob lived a life marked by deep devotion to his family, tireless work ethic, and an infectious sense of humor that left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Bob’s journey began in West Virginia but took root in Michigan when his family moved north and joined Northwestern Baptist Church. It was there that Bob met the love of his life, Judith “Judy,” beginning a marriage that would span over 60 years. Together they built a life centered around faith, family, and community.

After attending Walsh Institute of Accountancy, Bob began his professional career working for a roofing and siding company before transitioning into accounting with Greater Detroit Business Services. In 1976, he took a leap of faith and founded Family Bookkeeping Services in Southfield, Michigan. His dedication to helping others with their finances became a lifelong mission. In the 1980s, he moved the business to Berkley and later relocated it to his home in Grand Blanc after moving there with Judy in 2003. Even into his later years, Bob continued preparing income taxes for clients who had become more like friends.

Bob’s love for people was evident in every aspect of his life. He could strike up a conversation with anyone-whether at church, on vacation, or standing in line at Dairy Deluxe on Woodward Avenue-and somehow always found common ground. Known affectionately as “Uncle Duck” or “Grandpa Duck” for his spot-on Donald Duck impersonation, Bob brought joy and laughter wherever he went. His eyes lit up when he smiled, and his signature dad jokes-told not just once but many times-became beloved staples among those who knew him. Family was at the heart of everything Bob did.

He cherished time spent with Judy and their children: Paul (Debbie) Hittie and Andrea (Michael) Coats. He held close the memory of their late son Todd Hittie and found great joy in being a grandfather to Jonathon Hittie; Rachel Ellen “Skylar” Hittie; Steven Coats; Danny Coats; and ShannonNoel Hittie. He also shared a special bond with his sister Nancy (Tom) Lamb and was deeply loved by many nieces and nephews.

Bob’s hobbies reflected his vibrant personality and hands-on spirit. He delighted in building pinewood derby cars with his boys and grandkids, attending car shows to admire classic automobiles, solving puzzles at the kitchen table, bowling strikes with friends, playing softball with the church league, embarking on Jeep adventures with Paul and Jonathon, capturing memories through countless photographs at every event imaginable-even if it meant getting just one more shot-and enjoying fishing trips that blended quiet reflection with storytelling. A long-time Detroit Tigers fan, Bob could recite game scores even while appearing fast asleep during broadcasts-a talent that amused all who witnessed it. During tax season Fridays were reserved for late-night Perry’s Pizza runs-always double cheese-double pepperoni-a tradition that fueled both body and spirit during busy months.

Faith remained central throughout Bob’s life. At Northwestern Baptist Church he served faithfully on the finance committee while forming lifelong friendships within its walls. After relocating to Grand Blanc, he and Judy became active members of First Baptist Church of Grand Blanc where they found renewed fellowship. Bob especially enjoyed participating in Operation Christmas Child projects-filling boxes for children in need brought him great fulfillment.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents Ira “Bud” Hittie and Florence (Mac) Armstrong as well as his beloved son Todd Hittie.

Robert Milton “Bob” Hittie leaves behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, unwavering faith, and deep love for those around him. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him-and may we carry forward the warmth of his smile and the echo of one more dad joke told just one more time.
