Robert J. Hromek

HROMEK, Robert J. - age 87, of Durand, passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2025. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 30, 2026 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 700 Columbia Dr., Durand, MI with Fr. Arockiyasamy Santhiyagu, msfs celebrant. The family will receive friends from 10:30 AM until the time of Mass on Saturday, May 30, 2026. Committal service with full military honors will take place 11:00 AM, Monday, June 1, 2026 at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly.

Robert was born on September 4, 1938, in Flint, Michigan, the son of Jacob and Lydia (Staroba) Hromek. He graduated from Swartz Creek High School and was united in marriage to Mary Kazen on September 28, 1963, in Owosso. Robert proudly enlisted into the United States Army in 1959, proudly serving until his honorable discharge in 1962. He worked as a millwright for many years until his retirement from GM in 1998. Robert was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Durand Eagles. He was an avid golfer who enjoyed traveling and visiting casinos with a large group of close friends.

Surviving are: daughter, Dyana (Ted) Spiess of FL; grandson, Zachary Krug of NC; three siblings, Nancy (Albert) Chargo, Shirley Henige and Larry Hromek and several nieces and nephews.
