LAMMY, Ron - Age 89, of Flint and Owosso, died March 13, 2017. Ron was born in Toledo, Ohio on January 18, 1928 to Alger and Evelyn (Strauer) Lammy. He came to Flint in 1937, where he graduated from Flint Northern High School. He served his country proudly during WWII after which he started driving truck for Kurtz Gravel. In 1950, he married Gloria (Heidenreich) and had three children, Kristine (Deceased), Deborah and Ron II. Ron and Gloria started Flushing Redi-Mix in 1955. After selling his interest in that company, he started Modern Concrete in 1963. This became the cornerstone that cemented his concrete empire. After adding three more divisions, the company became Modern Industries. Ron supplied concrete to many recognizable structures which included Plant 38-GM Tool and Die Bldg., Genesee Valley Center, The New Citizens Bank Bldg., Festival Marketplace and many projects at "The Buick". He was involved in many sand and gravel operations, constructed two mobile home parks and was involved in many other ventures in Genesee County and throughout the state of Michigan. He worked with his children, Deborah and Ron II until his retirement in 2000. In 2013, Modern Concrete celebrated it's 50th Anniversary. In the early 70's, Ron met Beverly Cords. Ron has been a part of her children, Jeff and Jason's lives for the 40 plus years they have been together. Ron supported many community efforts, both in Owosso and Flint, many times anonymously, as Ron was proud to help in any way he could, but never sought recognition. Ron also supported many friends, businesses and relationships. Ron always had great pride in his work and was grateful for everyone who ever worked for him and with him. He will be missed by all who knew him. Ron was very proud to have spent his life in Flint. He believed in the city and the people that lived here. Ron is survived by his companion of 46 years, Beverly Cords; his sister, Sandra Lammy; children, Deborah (Lammy) and Bruce Campbell, Ronald D. and Marti Lammy II and their mother, Gloria Lammy; Beverly's children, Jeffrey and Deb Cords, Jason and Katherine Cords; grandchildren, Robert Ladd, Ron and Ivy McTaggart, Krista McTaggart, Lauren and Ron Bisti, Katie and Nicholas Gruzwalski, Stephanie and Eric Dahl, Ronald and Carissa Lammy III, Tyler Cords and Jaxon Cords. He also leaves 12 great-grandchildren; many friends and family, too numerous to mention. Ron was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved daughter, Kristine; granddaughter, Megan Lammy; great-grandson, Hunter. The family wishes to thank The Sugarbush Manor for their continued care of Ron.
