VANOVER, Roy Martin, Sr. - Age 86, of Burton, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at his residence. A Private Family service will be held Saturday April 13, 2013 at Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Road, Flint. Pastor Curtis Lilly officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Public visitation will be held at the funeral home Friday from 5-9 PM. A Masonic Memorial Service will be held at the funeral home 7:00 PM Friday. Roy was born May 6, 1926 in Abingdon, Virginia, the son of Richard Frank and Perdottie Alice (Mahala) Vanover and was raised in Johnson City, TN. Roy served in the U.S. Navy for two years. He married Evelyn Louise Taylor October 23, 1948. He owned and operated Esquire Patio & Door for years. Roy was a member of the Flushing VFW, the Masonic Lodge in Detroit and Shriners in Bay City. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Evelyn of Burton; son, Frank E. Vanover of Burton; grandson, Robert K. Vanover; daughter-in-law, Margaret Vanover; brother-in-law, Findlay "Jack" Hobson; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Roy M. Vanover, Jr. in 2005; two sisters, Marie Hobson and Letha Davis; and three brothers, Joseph, Carl, and Edward Vanover.
