Sallye Jo Wurtz

Wurtz, Sallye Jo - Age 84, of Swartz Creek, died May 5, 2026.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, May 16, 2026 at More Life Tabernacle, 6430 Lennon Road, Swartz Creek, Michigan 48473, Rev. Greg Wilbanks and Bishop Jerry F.J. Stoner officiating. The funeral service may be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/@morelifetab. Interment in Crestwood Memorial Cemetery, Grand Blanc, Michigan. Visitation will be held 4-8 PM, Friday, May 15 at Sharp Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Road, Grand Blanc, Michigan 48507; and 10 AM until the time of the funeral at 11 AM on Saturday, May 16 at the church. Those desiring may make contributions to Genesee County Humane Society in honor of her late grand-dog Zoey.

Sallye was born January 21, 1942 in Etowah, Arkansas, the daughter of Sam Thomas Welch and Ruby Jewell (Stokes) Welch. She retired from Koegel Meats with many years of service.

In her earlier years she was a member of South Flint Tabernacle, and in her later years was a member of More Life Tabernacle. She was a starting guard for the Manila Lady Lions 1958 State Basketball Championship Team in Manila, Arkansas. Sallye's greatest joy in life was her home and entertaining her family and friends.

Surviving are: two sons, Keith Kirby of Swartz Creek, David (Lana) Wurtz of Grand Blanc; three grandchildren, Zachary Wurtz, Allison (Chandler) Yarnall, Adam Wurtz; sister Patricia Ann Welch; many nieces and nephews; and many many long lasting friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Gary Wurtz; four siblings, Douglas Welch, Billy Welch, Charles Thomas Welch, and Dorothy Kathleen Garrard.
