STOKLAS, Sophia Clara (Vavro) Â Age 86, of Swartz Creek, died Thursday, June 5, 2003 at Huron Valley Hospital. Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11 AM Saturday, June 14, 2003 at St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Amos Wischmeyer celebrant. Mrs. Stoklas was born May 14, 1917 in Detroit, MI, the daughter of Michael and Louise (Gonieszewski) Smiarowski and had resided in Swartz Creek area since 1975. She married Emil Vavro in 1935 and he preceded her in death in 1957; she then married Thomas Stoklas in 1968 and he preceded her in death in 1984. Mrs. Stoklas was employed at Flint General Hospital from 1958 to 1962 as a switchboard operator, admitting clerk and payroll; she was employed at Dr. Bunyans Medical Office as a medical assitant retiring in 1973, after 14 years of serving. She was then employed at Sears, retiring in 1983. She was a member of the Croatian Club and a volunteer with the McLaren Hospital Auxiliary. Surviving are: three sons, Robert T. Vavro of Romulus, Charles E. Vavro and wife, Barbara of Clio, Paul A. Vavro and wife, Patricia of Louisville, KY; five grandchildren, Kimberley, Amy, Christopher, Vonda, Patrick; four great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Steven, Andrew, Eric; brother, Bernard Smiarowski and wife, Juno of Linden; cousins; nieces and nephews; She was also preceded in death by: four sisters, Helen Postemski, Frances Tolinski, Rose Wolschon and Marie Davis.
