Sophie Strygulec, age 93, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026.

Sophie was born in the village of Bąków Dolny in the Łódź Voivodeship of Poland to Josef and Francis (Pienkowski) Dalek. Her childhood was marked by the challenges and uncertainties of life in Europe during World War II. Those early experiences would shape much of her life and leave a lasting impact on the woman she became.

In 1951, Sophie courageously immigrated to New York City in search of new opportunities and a brighter future. Not long after arriving in America, she attended a Polish dance where she met another Polish immigrant, Jerzy “Jerry” Strygulec. Their shared heritage, values, and dreams brought them together, and they were married on August 18, 1956.

Together they built a life centered on hard work, perseverance, and family. After their marriage, they settled in Alma, Michigan, where they raised their son, Robert. In her later years, Sophie made her home in Fenton, Michigan, where she enjoyed being close to her family.

Sophie loved fashion, dancing, and spending time with those she loved. She especially treasured her relationships with her siblings and the many memories they created together while raising their families.

Like many who lived through the hardships of World War II, Sophie carried both the strength and the scars of those experiences throughout her life. Her journey was not always an easy one, but she faced it with determination and resilience. Through her sacrifices and perseverance, she helped create a foundation upon which future generations of her family would grow and thrive.

Most importantly, Sophie placed her faith in Jesus Christ. Her family finds comfort in knowing that she is now at peace in the presence of her Heavenly Father.

Sophie is survived by her son, Robert (Jennifer) Strygulec; grandson, Steven (Michaela) Strygulec; granddaughters, Sarah (Spencer) Fedo and Sophie (Austin) Adams; great-grandsons, Conrad Kern, Coy Kern, and Asher Fedo; and great-granddaughters, Hartlyn Adams and Norah Adams.

Though she will be missed, Sophie's life remains a testament to endurance, courage, and the hope that carried her from war-torn Europe to a new life in America. Her legacy lives on through the family she loved and the generations that follow.

The family will hold a private graveside service at a later date.
