Hudgens, Stephen Kenney, D.V.M. – age 82 of Fenton, passed away Friday, April 17, 2026, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease, surrounded by the love of his family. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11am Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 N. Adelaide St., Fenton with Fr. Robert Copeland, celebrant. Family and friends are welcome to attend visitation on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, from 4-7pm, rosary to follow at Sharp Funeral Home, Fenton Chapel 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton.
Stephen was born in Lawrence, MA on August 13, 1943, the son of James S. and Rosemary (Holden) Hudgens. He graduated from the Michigan State University (MSU) College of Veterinary Medicine in June 1967. He married M. Christine (MacDonald) Hudgens on June 22, 1968. Stephen worked tirelessly as a veterinarian, practicing veterinary medicine for 50 years in both Oakland and Genesee County before retiring in January 2016. Stephen was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association. He was a dedicated Spartan, serving as President of the Genesee County MSU Alumni Club. Above all, Stephen was devoted to his family and faith. He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church – Flint, active in the St. Pius X Catholic Church community and a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. He pursued many interests and activities along with being a member of the Flint Golf Club.
Stephen is survived by his wife, M. Christine (MacDonald) Hudgens; son, Dr. Jim (Melinda) Hudgens, daughters Katie (Dave) Salerno, and Meg (Sam) Potts; seven grandchildren, Aidan Hudgens, Lily (Dennis) Drake, Jack Salerno, Peter Salerno, Simon Hudgens, Molly Salerno, and Maisie Potts; four great grandchildren; two sisters Susan Plancon and Ruth Hudgens. He was preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers, David and Michael Hudgens, his stepmother, Gloria Hudgens and his grandson, Charles Stephen Potts.
We would like to thank the many caregivers that showed compassion, empathy and kindness to Stephen. Your care and support meant more to our family than we can express.
Memorial contributions in Stephen’s memory would be appreciated and can be sent to Powers Catholic High School, St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, or the Michigan Parkinson Foundation. He would want one final message: Go Green!
