Steven Ray Umber, age 76 of Fenton, MI passed away peacefully on July 3, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. He was born to Clara Cheek and Paul Ray Umber on October 15, 1949 in Memphis, TN. Steve attended Bendle High School in Burton, Michigan and participated in football and boxing. He was honorably discharged from the Navy and went on to further his education by receiving his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Michigan in nursing. Steve worked as an RN for U of M Hospital in Ann Arbor for 15 years until his retirement.
Steve married Deanna (Whipple) in November 1976 and they spent fifty years together sharing their interests, hobbies and adventures. Steve was fascinated by the way things worked. Always open to a new idea, curious about what drives people, mindful of new trends while knowing exactly who he was, what he believed, and that there are occasions for compromise. Open, honest, a fan of things that are funny, Steve was a man who loved his home. Steve was a rock, a person you wanted in your day, a person who loved life. It says so, right on their camper.
Steve will be deeply missed by his wife, Deanna; daughter, Renee (Jeff) Grooters; step-children, Dena; Cheryl (Keith) Poulson; Jeff (Rolanda) Barcome; brother, Tony (Cathy) Umber; step-brother James (Charlene) Beyer; his 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; as well as many other relatives and dear friends.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Clara and Paul Umber; step-daughter, Cynthia Hnatow; step-son-in-law, Andrew King; step-brother, Craig Beyer; and nephew, Aaron Umber.
