Susan (Sue, Susie) was born on January 4, 1951, in Flint, Michigan to the late Edward & Lois Spence. She graduated in 1969 from Flint Central High School. She earned her first nursing degree as a registered nurse in 1973 and later in life went on to earn her bachelor's degree. She retired from Genesys as a nurse manager in 2012. She married the love of her life, Russell, on May 22, 1981. Sue was a life member to Faith Missionary Church on Elms Road where she taught Sunday School and volunteered with many Vacation Bible Schools throughout the years. In her earlier years she enjoyed road trips and vacations to the Upper Peninsula. One of her guilty pleasures was watching Grey's Anatomy and then calling her daughter Amanda to talk about each new episode. Sue was a "master crafter" and she enjoyed creating things for family and friends. Her absolute favorite was painting, a talent she demonstrated through the creation of beautiful painted glassware that she sold at local craft fairs.

Nothing on earth mattered more to Sue than her family. She adopted her children and dedicated her entire life to ensuring they felt her love.  In the early years Sue was a home room mom, President of the Barhitte Booster Club and organizer of the eagerly anticipated Santa Shop hosted annually at her children’s  elementary school. As time went on, her dedication never wavered. Whether she was performing her duties as the leader of Girl Scout Troop 218 or sitting in the front row at every sporting event, recital, or quiz team competition, Sue never failed to be there to support her children, and the children of so many others. She was a second mother to countless friends and relatives, never hesitating to take in and love all who came to her for support.

Sue’s heart tripled in size at the birth of her beloved grandchildren, her "munchkins," and she spent 15 joyous years watching them grow. She woke before the sun to help get them off to school and gleefully managed all their extracurricular activities which included taking one or all of them to dance 5 nights a week.  Day in and day out, Sue went above and beyond to help raise three incredible human beings who will miss her forever.

Sue leaves behind her loving husband, Russell; her daughter, Amanda (Brad) Buzzard; her daughter-in-law, Melissa Watson; her three precious grandchildren, Lydia Watson, Elijah Watson and Blakely Buzzard and her sister, Linda Inman. She is also survived by her son, Russell II and many nieces, nephews and other family members.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Richard "Bud" Spence.

Sue's family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Ascension Genesys for their amazing care over the last few months, especially Jackie VanHorn and Sue's "hunk" Eric Drew; Crystal Cavasos (our family's angel) and our church family who has been by our side daily since the beginning.
