Susan “Susie Q” was born on August 20, 1963, in Clare, Michigan and was raised on Lake Shamrock. She graduated from Clare High School in 1981. Sue later attended Aquinas College, where she met the love of her life, Patrick. While at Aquinas, she earned her degree in Biology and later earned her teaching certificate from Eastern Michigan University, carrying her love of learning and service into everything she did. She went on to dedicate her life to education, children, and family.

Sue was deeply compassionate, selfless, and caring, someone who truly devoted her life to being a mom and later, a proud and loving Nana to her grandchildren: Miles, Frankie, Maesie, Emerson, and Forrest.

Sue was known for being the brightest light in any room. She had dear friends from many different walks and stages of life and loved people without judgment. She had a gift for making everyone feel special and valued. Her genuine laugh and warm presence are memories that will live on in everyone who knew her.

Sue was incredibly brave and courageous, a true fighter who faced life’s challenges with strength, grace, and love for her family.

She also found joy in simple moments, like walking Spud and later Remi, and spending time with the people she loved most.

Sue is survived by her loving husband, Patrick Dewan; her children, Jack (Kaylee) Dewan, Sarah (Garrett) Callard, and Maggie (Quinton) Mandle; her mother, Barbara Hofweber; and her siblings, Phil Hofweber, Lisa McCambridge, Salli McCullough, and Jack Hofweber along with many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded by her father, William Hofweber.

Sue’s kindness, strength, and light will live on through the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.

Sue had a passion for helping and educating children and teens. Through her work and involvement with the teen center, Sue created a strong sense of community and provided a safe, welcoming place where young people felt seen, supported, and cared for. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to HERO Hartland Teen Center, a cause that reflects her heart for supporting and caring for others.
